Organized Sports

I signed all the kids up for base/soft/t-ball this year. Including Phil.

His father and I are very interested to see how this plays out. This kid is so completely different from the other three and we have no idea if this will work or not. The others I could at least force into compliance if necessary but Phil doesn't work the same way.

John told his teacher at parent-teacher conferences that we had signed him up for t-ball and she was like, "Really? .... I'm not sure how that is going to work out."

So even she knows.

Well, we'll find out next month, won't we.

Circus

Phil's class got to go to the circus today. I went with them.

Ireland

While we were waiting to go to the circus today, Phil's teacher told me they had been talking about Ireland. They had a "Weekly Reader" about St Patrick's Day and there was a picture of Ireland and so they were discussing all of the stuff there. So Phil tells her that he and I have been to Ireland. She asked him what we saw while we were there and he basically told her all the same stuff they had just been talking about. Then she says since I'm coming over to go to the circus with them that she will ask me about going to Ireland. He was quiet for a little while, then he whispers to her, "Mom doesn't really like to talk about it." His teacher about died trying not to laugh out loud.

Sickling

Poor little guy was sick Thursday night. He had a fever and just wasn't feeling at all well. He actually asked to go to bed at 6. After I put the girls to bed at 8, he got up and I asked him if he wanted to sit with me awhile but it was only a few minutes and he wanted to go back to bed.

He woke up again later. It was kind of like some of the "night terrors" he'd get sometimes as a baby. He was screaming and crying and sitting up in bed when I went in there. He said, "I can NEVER find ANYTHING!" So I tried to calm him down and he just kept crying. I finally got to pick him up and hold him and he said, "I just want to go UNDERGROUND." I have no idea what he was talking about. I gave him some more Tylenol and a cracker and water since he said he was hungry and thirsty. I was going to have him sit on the couch and eat a couple of crackers but he just took one and went back to bed! I don't normally allow the children to eat crackers in bed but I decided to make an exception in this case. ;)

Cut & Paste

Philip had the flu 2 weeks ago. Then we went skiing last week. So this week he brought home basically 2 weeks worth of school work to do. We got thru quite a bit last night but then he was just done. He could not stand the thought of doing any more. So we'll have to finish up the rest of it in the next day or so.

Apparently, cutting, pasting, and tracing is hard, tedious work for a 5-year-old.

Excitement

Philip came up to me this morning, "Mommy! You have to come see this!"

I had changed the desktop picture on the computer last night and he thought that was awesome!

Missing Hayden

Hayden has been staying at Tyler's place since basketball practice Friday night. Phil just came up and asked, "When is Hayden coming back?" "Should you go and take him back?"

I asked if he was missing Hayden.

He said (in a sad little voice), "Yes, I miss him."

Good-Bye, My Little Robot

So...Phil is no longer a robot. He hasn't been saying that much for the past few months and I finally asked him this weekend. He said the spell was broken and he is no longer a robot.

(I guess it was bound to end sometime ~ he's been a robot for about a year or so, I guess. Not sure when it started exactly but it ended about the time he started Kindergarten.)

Now he says he has an imaginary friend ~ Hayden. Not sure he understands what imaginary means but he insists Hayden is his best friend as well.

BBQ and Waffles

This morning Philip asked me for a stick of BBQ.

Huh?

So he went to the freezer and pointed at the top of the door.

Oooohhhh! Barbecue flavored beef jerky. Gotcha.

----------------------

Tonight he went to bed with a Eggo Waffle box on his head. He does this sometimes. So I said, "OK, waffle box, I guess you and I will do the prayer tonight."

I started doing the prayer and Phil threw off his box and yelled, "Boo!" So I, of course, said, "Ahhhhh!"

And he started laughing and laughing. He thought it was hysterical that he 'scared' me.

It's so funny to hear a little kid laugh like that.

Time for Sports

A couple of weeks ago, Philip came up to me and said just out of the blue, "I think I'd like to play tee-ball next year."

So, we'll see how this goes! Especially, with FOUR of them in base/soft/tee-ball at once! Holy crap! I kind of wished he would wait until Hayden could drive before he wanted to play sports!

Quotes

Taking out the old quotes...

"You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation." - Plato

"'Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one." - Dr Suess

"The thing about growing up with Fred and George,' said Ginny thoughtfully, 'is that you sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve.'" - J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Life is Unfair

Me: "Phil, I have to run back to work for a little while."

Phil: "OK. I'll be over here blowing bubbles."

Kindergarten is Hard Work

So on Tuesday, Philip passed out on the floor after school. He did wake up in time to have a PB&J before going to bed. Today he put himself to bed right after supper.

Phil's Lite Brite Art

PICTURE

I asked, "Is it a Christmas Tree?" He said, "No, it's a chemical powered de-lax." (I have no idea where he gets these things.)

Conversations

Today, Phil came in to the kitchen crying and saying, "I fell down! And I hurt my spleen!"

Tonight, he was in bed singing and I went in there to tell him to go to sleep...he was singing, "I'm too sexy. . . "

His Own Man

Phil went with me to drop Hayden off at baseball practice last night.

I asked Hayden if he wanted to play football this year. He said he was still thinking about it. I told him I'd sign him up but only if he was 100 percent sure he would give it his all.

Hayden asked why Phil wasn't playing any sports yet.

I said I don't think we'd even be able to get Phil out on the field. He just doesn't seem to care. he's never once asked if he could play sports. (Not tangibly anyway.)

Then I asked Phil if he wanted to play any sports. I asked if he wanted to play football? "No." Soccer? "No." T-Ball? "I don't want to play anything!"

I told Hayden that Phil may look just like him when he was that age but he is his own person and just wants to do his own thing. And right now that thing is playing Lego's and living in his own little make-believe world.

The Dropout

The little kids and I took Meredith to her game tonight. For the most part, the little ones were running around with a pack of other little kids, but then Phil came up to sit by me. Out of nowhere he tells me he is going to be a kindergarten dropout.

I said, "No. You are going to graduate from high school."

He (very upset) said, "Mooooommmmm! Pleeeaaasssseee! I want to be a dropout!

I said, "Do you even know what a dropout is?"

He said, "No."

I said, "Don't you think you should at least go to school long enough to find out what it means?"

He said, "They already said they won't tell me."

.......Oh, yeah, this is gonna be a fun year. I can't WAIT for parent-teacher conferences.

Growing UP

I had to go do a delivery today so I told Phil Grandma would come over to stay with him while I was gone.

He said, "You know I'm 5 now! I can take c are of myself."

Oh, well, she'll just come over so you won't be lonely.

"I don't get lonely any more. I'm FIVE!"

OK, fine. She'll just come over to watch Roscoe then.

"I can take care of myself AND Roscoe."

Look, kid, Grandma is coming over. I'll see you later.

{Pretty tough talk coming from somebody wearing his pants backwards!}

Boys & Cars

First thing Phil said this morning...

"Mom, aren't Hot Wheels cars awesome?"

Love

This morning Phil climbed up onto the chair beside me and said, "Mom, I love you more than toys."

That means a lot coming from a 5-year-old!!!!
